Dr Eric Ampem-Lassen graduated from the Cape Coast University, Ghana with Dip.Ed, BSc and M.Phil degrees in Physics. Eric completed his PhD degree in Physics at The University of Melbourne in 2004. During his PhD degree, Eric gained considerable experience using imaging techniques such as Near Field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Quantitative Phase Microscopy (QPM) to characterise optical fibres for the design and fabrication of modern photonic based devices. Eric worked as a Research Fellow within the School of Physics at The University of Melbourne from 2004 to 2005 after which he joined the QCV team as an Optical Engineer. As a QCV member, Eric is responsible for CVD diamond growth and is also experienced in Raman Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). He plays a major role in the manipulation and positioning of nanoparticles using the Focused Ion Beam (FIB).
